An agreement was reached last month between Hardy and United, with the deal formalised this week.
Hardy has five caps with England U16s.
He has worked his way through Derby's age group levels before leaving for United.
United have signed him on scholarship terms and he will be eligible to sign a professional contract when he turns 17 next July.
