Virgínia,  25, has signed a contract until 2028 with a €60m release clause. He had a previous loan stint at Sporting.

He said, "I'm very happy to return to Sporting CP, which I know well. I already knew most of the players, and it's a place where I was treated well. Everything will be fine, for sure, because Sporting CP is in my heart. Ever since I left, I've always wanted to return, and I was really happy when it happened."

Assuring that "the intention has always been to return," Virgínia outlined his main goal for 2025/2026: "When I arrived, Sporting CP had just become champions. Now we've won the title for the second time and we want to fight for a third. I'm here to lend a hand and fight."

The goalkeeper, who spent most of his career in England, recalled developing "an excellent relationship with the fans" during his first spell at Sporting CP, and is confident that will continue.

"I've maintained that since then, and I know they will welcome me with open arms," he added.

"I arrived a few hours ago and it feels like I never left. I've more than adapted to the club and the reality of playing for Sporting CP. I can't wait to get back to playing with the Lion on my chest. (...) I followed and watched most of the matches. Being here after all these years is an immense joy."
