The Gunners beat Crystal Palace on Sunday afternoon to open up a four-point lead at the top of the Premier League table. Liverpool dropped to seventh after their loss to Brentford, whilst Chelsea and Manchester City also dropped points in what is a title race leaning towards Arsenal so far.
Arsenal have finished as runners-up for the past three seasons, and have not won the league since 2003. Now, manager Mikel Arteta has a better chance than ever to lift the famous trophy. However, speaking to Metro on behalf of AskGamblers, James believes Arsenal may not have what it takes.
“The test for them, as I’m sure many people will say, is now that they’re top of the table, how are they going to handle that?
“I don’t think Arsenal will win the title if that’s an answer, even if they’ve started well.
“I think the likes of Man City Chelsea and Liverpool will go into the last weeks of the season, if not the last game of the season, and possibly decide the title race.
“But it will be interesting with Arteta to see how he handles qualification for the Champions League and maintain that top position in the Premier League, and I don’t think they’ll be able to do it.”
It is the first time at this stage of this season since 1992 that none of Manchester City and United, Liverpool or Chelsea are in the Premier League top four. Arsenal are cruising at the top of the league but as James says there is a long way to go before they can be crowned champions.
Arsenal return to Premier League action next weekend to take on Burnley where another three points look likely for Arteta whose side look unstoppable.
