The Gunners were forced to settle for a 1-1 draw at 10-man Chelsea over the weekend as the two London sides clashed at Stamford Bridge. The result came despite Moises Caicedo being sent off early in the game, proving Chelsea resiliance despite being down to 10 men.
Chelsea had gone into the weekend in second but have dropped to third after Manchester City beat Leeds United 3-2. Despite dropping down a position, Fernandez spoke to GIVEMESPORT about Chelsea’s title hopes which he says are more than alive.
“Of course we are (title contenders),” Fernandez told GIVEMESPORT. “This season, there are many contenders: Liverpool, Manchester City, Manchester United. All the teams are battling towards the top.
“There are some very strong Premier League sides. Arsenal have also been doing really well for many years. And Liverpool are a great side. I’m not going to choose one because they’re all good.
“And we know the Champions League is very tough. We’ll try to reach the final, which is what we deserve as a club. We’ve been doing well, so we’re capable of being right up there.”
Arsenal still hold a sturdy five-point lead at the top of the Premier League table, but that will not be enough to dismay Chelsea and rivals Manchester City who will see the Gunners dropping points as a sign of weakness.
Chelsea face Leeds this Wednesday, a side manager Enzo Maresca has never beaten in a competitive game, which may worry Fernandez heading into a must win clash.
