Chelsea are reportedly prioritising a move for a new midfielder in 2026 to help ease the burden on Enzo Fernandez and Moises Caicedo.

Fernandez, 24, and Caicedo, 24, have spoken several times about how they’ve had to play through injuries during their time at Chelsea.

The two players have played a combined 55 games so far this season, which is quite remarkable considering we’re only in mid-December.

According to the Telegraph, Chelsea are hoping to ease the burden on the two by signing a top new midfielder in 2026.

It’s understood that Chelsea are expecting to have a quiet January transfer window and will instead be laying the groundwork for the summer.

Man United Kobbie Mainoo and Crystal Palace’s Adam Wharton are their top targets, both fitting in with Chelsea’s current transfer policy.
