United have picked up13 points out of a possible 15 since Carrick was appointed caretaker manager last month. The former midfielder has won four games in a row before Tuesday’s 1-1 draw with West Ham.
These win included results over league leaders Manchester City and Arsenal, results no fan expected as the club slowly headed downhill under Amorim before Carrick took charge.
The Red Devils are now in a strong position to secure Champions League qualification, sitting fourth in the Premier League standings above the likes of champions Liverpool and Chelsea.
Carrick joins Darren Moore (West Bromwich Albion, April 2018), Mike Jackson (Burnley, April 2022), Mike Phelan (Hull City, August 2016), Rafael Benitez (Chelsea, April 2013) and Phil Thompson (Liverpool, November 2001 and March 2002) as interim managers who have won the award.
He beat out the likes of Chelsea’s Liam Rosenior and Bournemouth’s Andoni Iraola to claim the award in what is a well deserved accomplishment.
Club legend Wayne Rooney suggested Carrick will become “impossible” to ignore if United’s current form continues until the end of the season, as the club searches for a permanent manager.
The award will certainly help Carrick’s chances of staying in the job next season as the board look at all available options.
