Named formally as United manager to the end of the season on Wednesday, Carrick faces a massive test first up in facing City.

However, the Geordie has received a healthy boost in the lead-up with Bryan Mbeumo and Adam Diallo returning to Carrington for training ahead of the derby.

Both Mbeumo's Cameroon and Amad's Ivory Coast are out of the Africa Cup of Nations, meaning the attacking pair have returned early from the tournament.

Both nations fell at the quarterfinal stage, with Mbeumo and Amad now back in Manchester to meet Carrick and his new coaching staff.
