Manchester United caretaker Michael Carrick has offered Kobbie Mainoo a fresh lifeline.

Frozen out by Carrick's predecessor Ruben Amorim, Mainoo started today's victorious derby against Manchester City.

Before kickoff, Carrick only had positive words for the midfielder as he explained Mainoo's selection.

He said,  "I think Kobbie is a great player, he has huge talent, he has enormous abilities. He has played in some incredibly big matches and managed it.

"He also played for the national team in big matches. I look forward to seeing him flourish now."

Mainoo played the full 90 today as United won 2-0 through goals from Bryan Mbeumo and Patrick Dorgu.
