Former Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher has mocked former Manchester United star Gary Neville for his Premier League predictions.

Neville and Carragher made their yearly season predictions on Monday Night Football this week which included a hilarious moment between the two as Neville’s United prediction was questioned and mocked by Carragher who stated that he picks United to finish within the Champions League spots “every year".

Carragher also mocked Neville who tipped United manager Ruben Amorim as a “Manager to Watch” which is a controversial pick considering the quality of managers in the Premier League. However, Neville brushed his comments off and explained why he thinks that Amorim can impress this season.

"Why you laughing? It's disrespect. The reason last year (picking Erik ten Hag as 'Manager to Watch') is a similar reason to this. Ten Hag, last year, because I knew that if he started badly, he'd be under massive pressure.

"Similarly, if Ruben Amorim starts badly and they are in 13th. 14th by October or November, there's going to be massive pressure. He's the Manchester United manager, he has to deliver in the first few months of this season."

While many may think United will not finish in the top four after a disastrous campaign last year, some remain hopeful after their summer transfer business that looks to have reshaped the side especially in attack. Bryan Mbeumo and Matheus Cunha alongside Benjamin Sesko adds new depth to a United side hoping to match Neville’s optimistic prediction.

During their predictions, Sky Sports presenter David Jones laughed as he revealed a shocking truth about Neville’s top four predictions:

"13 per cent of Manchester United fans think they will finish in the top four," before turning to Neville and asking: "13 per cent... Have we got one per cent here?"

"Course we have," Neville replied, causing Carragher and Jones to burst into laughter. "I can't disappoint you. I've got to come back here in 10 months and try to defend this.

"So, David, we've worked out before that I've done this now for eight years and I've always had Manchester United in the top four, every year."
