Brighton striker Danny Welbeck was delighted with his double in victory over Liverpool today.

Welbeck struck twice either side Milos Kerkez's effort just before halftime for the 2-1 win in today's early kickoff at Falmer stadium.

The veteran was named man-of-the-match and said afterwards: “It was a great day. A really great performance from the lads because they have some great players with good qualities so you have to be switched on at all times, and really pleased to get the three points today.”

On his first goal, Welbeck said: “We work on it throughout the week, and there are a lot of different patterns that we have. It’s nice when it works on a match day."

On the second goal, he continued: “It’s so annoying, honestly. I think I have a bit of ptsd because when we played against Fulham, and I scored, and celebrated wildly I think I was offside by like an elbow or something, which was a little bit mad but yeah it’s difficult because you want to celebrate but you don’t know if you’re offside so you have to wait for the VAR. It takes a lot of time, and it takes the joy out of it."

Asked about the performance of Yankuba Minteh, Welbeck stated: “Mintah was incredible. He was threatening throughout the whole game, and once he’s playing like that and he’s putting that amount of energy, passion and hardwork, he’s going to be really dangerous for any team he comes up against.

And on fellow veteran James Milner, he added: “Who Benjamin Button? Yeah, James Milner is incredible. So for me, I’m thirty-five and he’s fourty, and he is pushing every single day. It’s not normal to see it.

"You only see it in match day but if you see what he is doing throughout the week, and the stuff that he is not just doing on the pitch, but off it, he is pushing the standards for everyone every single day. I really hope that this isn’t his last season because he has plenty more left in the tank as you can see in his performances over the last few weeks.”
