United’s hierarchy as well as manager Ruben Amorim saw Baleba as the perfect player to lead their midfield during the summer as they rebuilt a squad that were coming off their worst season in club history.
Brighton reportedly want to bank over £100M for the Cameroon international, but Bloom said he is not for sale. He spoke to The Argus about the deal that was quickly brushed off his desk.
“I don’t think Baleba was a saga.
“There was interest from Manchester United, and we said that he wasn't available this summer and they went away.
“So we've had many bigger sagas in the past. But Carlos Baleba, his improvement has been immense.
“Massively important player to this football club, and just delighted that he's with us for this season.”
The 21-year-old ended up staying with Brighton and remains under contract until 2028. However, he is unlikely to stay with The Seagulls as they struggle to gain European football, which Baleba will be seeking in the near future as his options open up.
