Bayer Leverkusen chief Rolfes: Xhaka really wanted Sunderland move

Bayer accepted a €15m offer from Sunderland to sell Xhaka.

And Rolfes explained granting the Switzerland midfielder his transfer, explaining:  "Since his arrival two years ago, Granit Xhaka has been a key player in the Leverkusen team that achieved the double in 2024, winning both the German league and the German Cup .

"Meeting his urgent desire to change clubs, under the agreed conditions, represents the best solution for Bayer and all parties involved.

"We wish Granit all the best for the rest of his career."
