The 35-year-old was infamous during his time in the Premier League and often made headlines with his antics, which included a house fire reportedly caused by fireworks being let off in his bathroom.
Tabloids used to report on the Italian striker’s antics each week, with many frustrated by what they saw not only off the pitch but also during training, as many questioned his attitude.
Speaking to La Gazzetta dello Sport, Balotelli says the media often went too far, and he struggled to adapt to life away from home.
"My experience with Inter was part of my development, but I think England shaped me the most," he said. "It was the first time I was alone, my family wasn't there, and I wasn't used to it.
“It shapes you for better or for worse, because you make mistakes and have to get out of them on your own.
“Why Always Me? I had it before the match with a warehouse worker; I was the centre of attention for my problems, and it was a nice outburst. The tabloids in England went overboard with me."
Balotelli, who most recently turned out for Genoa in 2024-25, is currently without a club in what is the twilight of his career. His time with Man City saw him score 30 goals in 80 games and lift the Premier League title. However, he will be remembered more for his personality and antics thanks to the media.
