The 26-year-old sustained a knee injury during a substitute appearance against Manchester United on the opening Premier League weekend, when Arsenal beat United 1-0 in what was a very tight clash.
Havertz will not feature for Germany in September’s World Cup qualifiers against Slovakia and Northern Ireland as reports state that he may need knee surgery to fix the issue which is stopping him from making an impact in the first half of the season.
The striker missed Arsenal’s 5-0 win over Leeds last weekend and it has been confirmed that he will be absent for Sunday’s trip to Anfield where The Gunners go head to head with title chasers Liverpool who beat Newcastle United 3-2 on Monday night.
Rudi Voller, the men's national team director at the German football federation confirmed his absence which rules him out of the Premier League clash.
"He certainly won't make it, he has a knee injury," Voller said. "We don't know exactly how it will go in the coming weeks, whether surgery is upcoming or it will be treated conservatively."
Arsenal will hope that Havertz does not have to undergo surgery, otherwise it may affect his long term fitness and the club’s attacking options which have already been stripped bare only a few games into the season.
