Arsenal defender Riccardo Calafiori has suffered an injury scare while on international duty with Italy this week and has been ruled out of their next World Cup qualifier.

The defender, who has made 11 appearances so far this season, scoring once and assisting twice, is a pivotal member for The Gunners under Arteta who will be praying that the Italian hasn’t picked up a serious knock.

This news comes from TuttoMercatoWeb who report that Calafiori has been ruled out of Thursday's 2026 World Cup qualifier against Moldova and will now follow an individual training programme away from the main squad.

With Manchester City closing in on Arteta, this is the worst possible time for the side to be picking up more injuries. The club already have Viktor Gyokeres, Kai Havertz, Gabriel Jesus, Noni Maueke, Martin Odegaard and Gabriel Martinelli all out for the time being and if Calafiori is out then Arsenal may be in serious trouble.

Arsenal now have less than two weeks before they face Tottenham in the north London derby at Emirates Stadium on November 23rd. The break may be a blessing in disguise however, as many players could return to the fold to help the club’s title chances.

The Azzurri will travel to Moldova today, and manager Gennaro Gattuso will provide the latest team news at a press conference this evening as Arsenal fans wait patiently for updates.
