Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has revealed that defender William Saliba has picked up what he believes to be a bizarre injury.

The Premier League leaders were forced to settle for a 1-1 draw at 10-man Chelsea over the weekend in what was a knock to their title hopes, especially as rivals Manchester City picked up 3 points.

Their lead at the top will be reduced to two if City beat Fulham on Tuesday evening, meaning the Gunners must beat Brentford if they are to keep their title hopes alive.

Arsenal already have Gabriel out with him sustaining a thigh problem whilst away with Brazil and now must deal with his partner Saliba possibly missing out against the Bees.

Speaking in his press conference, Arteta revealed that the Frenchman’s injury would take days to recover from, pushing him out of the Brentford clash.

“I am not going to be able to help you much today. We have another training session later today.

“He had a little niggle. I think it is going to be a matter of days.

“The ankle one (earlier this season), it was really random and unlucky. He tried at Anfield and he had to stay away.

“This one as well very bizarre, but hopefully it will be a matter of days.”

Arsenal chase their first title in over two decades and constant injuries to the likes of Saliba and Gabriel could ruin their chances of making history this season.
