Four Arsenal players are likely to be ruled out of their Carabao Cup tie against Brighton on Wednesday in what is a significant headache for manager Mikel Arteta whose side are already poked full of holes.
Defeats for Manchester City and Liverpool meant the Gunners extended their lead over their title rivals, but that did not come without repercussions, as many first team players could be out for some time.
Rice was among the Gunners quartet who sustained knocks on Sunday, had to be withdrawn during the second half after picking up a knock. Speaking after the game, Arteta said:
“Declan as well was struggling from the first half with a knock that he took ... with Declan, I don't really know because it was a knock.
"But I don't know if it was the calf or the Achilles or what exactly it was."
Calafiori was another forced off during the 1-0 win over the Eagles but Arteta has little to say after the game in what was a worrying sign for the Italian who may be out for a number of weeks.
Meanwhile, Saliba, whose fitness was called into question before the game, did not emerge after the interval against Palace. Arteta added: “On William there were two things related to his substitution, and with Declan I don’t really know because it was a knock.
“I don’t know if it was his calf or Achilles. Tomorrow we will have more news.”
Finally, Martinelli replaced Bukayo Saka on 66 minutes and saw out the victory but was spotted limping after the game as he made his way down the tunnel. This is not a good omen for the Brazilian, who has had his injury problems in the past. Arteta did comment positively after the clash however as fans wait for further updates.
"Yeah, I think so.
“We have to check that one. He was a bit uncomfortable. He said he felt something. We don’t know whether it’s a muscular issue or not. Tomorrow we’ll have more news.”
