Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta praised Viktor Gyokeres' work rate in their 1-0 Premier League win over Fulham on Saturday (October 18) but admitted they are 'begging' for him to score.

Arsenal went top of the Premier League table thanks to another set piece goal, this time from winger Leandro Trossard.

Gyokeres, 27, was signed as the man to end the North London club’s trophy drought, but despite his side’s impressive start to the season, has entered a drought of his own.

The striker has now gone six games across all compeititons without scoring, although Arteta is happy with Gyokeres’ ‘phenomenal’ work rate.

“He was very close today again, two or three times,” said Arteta.

“We were all begging for him to score. The work rate he puts in for the team is phenomenal, so we try to give him support and love and it will come.”
