Now in his ninth season with the Reds, Robertson finds himself in competition with summer signing Milos Kerkez who is manager Arne Slot preferred option this season.
Robertson turns 32 years old in March, making him one of the most senior players in the squad. The Scottish star nearly joined Atletico Madrid in the summer but the move never came to be as he stuck with the Premier League champions.
He has made 362 appearances for the Reds and has won everything possible under managers Slot and Jurgen Klopp. Now, talks have started over his future as he comes into the final years of his career.
"We’ll see what happens," Robertson said. "We’ve had chats now which will remain private. I've spoken to them and we’ll see what happens. Would I like to stay? Yes, but it’s a difficult question to ask. I’ve got five months left and we need to see the option to stay or if there’s options to go and things like that.
"I’ll sit down with my family and decide. After a stressful summer, I’m just trying to enjoy being a part of it, and being a Liverpool player. I wanted to qualify for the World Cup and thankfully we’ve managed to do that. I need to see what myself and my family wants moving forward."
Robertson, who joined from Hull City for £8m in 2017 is a fan favourite but as he ages he loses both his pace and agility which is needed at fullback. Updates should follow on his future over the next few months as the club begin negotiations.
