While new attackers Bryan Mbeumo and Matheus Cunha drew a blank on the day, Cole saw enough from the pair to suggest they will be succeed at Old Trafford.
The former United striker told Tribalfootball.com: "I thought it was a good game. Sometimes you don't know what to expect for the first game of the season, but I thought Man Utd played very well. Unfortunate not to come away with something, but that's football."
On Cunha and Mbeumo specifically, Cole also stated: "I'm not going to sit and say that anyone needs to do anything, it’s the first game of the season. I think the pair of them had a hell of a lot of energy.
"They can use their pace and power to look to take people on and push teams back. I think that creating chances is always positive. Just try to do the right things. I was disappointed that they got taken off, but they were very positive in how their debuts went."
