Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim has explained why his side failed to pick up 3 points against Wolves.

Wolves had lost 11 successive league games before Tuesday night and had managed just 2 points from their opening 18 games. However, they came away from Old Trafford with a point in what was a tough blow for Amorim’s side.

Amorim explains why his side were so poor

Joshua Zirkzee's deflected strike in the first half was not enough for the Red Devils who failed to move above Chelsea, who only picked up a draw against Bournemouth.

Amorim, speaking after the game, tried to explain why his side collapsed against one of the worst teams in Premier League history.

"We struggled for the whole game. We had a lack of creativity, but we knew that it would be a different game compared to Newcastle. We had a different energy during the game also. If you look at the game, we had our chances, but the fluidity wasn't there because there is a lack of connections.

"The game was completely different from the last one. We had more men behind the ball and when you have more men the ball you have to work harder, have more imagination to play the game in a different way. We lacked that quality. We are not going to use that excuse (missing players). But I understand why we lacked fluidity and one versus one."

Martinez admits his side were not good enough

Lisandro Martinez was also furious with his side at full-time as he rued a missed opportunity to pick up an easy win.

"I feel really disappointed. We can't come here at home and draw in this game," he said. "We have to win when we play at home and the opponents have to suffer. It is very frustrating."

United missed the chance to move into the top four and next face Leeds United in the new year in what should be an entertaining clash as the Lily whites move up the table.
