United pulled off a dramatic 2-1 comeback victory at the Etihad thanks to Amad's heroics last December but after a mixed campaign so far, Amorim faces his toughest challenge so far against manager Pep Guardiola and his relentless City side.
Cunha will miss City clash
Amorim first gave some disappointing team news on a number of players including Matheus Cunha who will miss this weekend’s clash through injury.
“They are out for this game, I don’t know how long it’s going to take. We need these guys to be a competitive team. We have very good players, who are eager to play, so we will be competitive on Sunday. But they are out.
“If you talk to Cunha outside, he will say he can play this game. They are pushing really hard."
United ready for a fight this weekend
He next spoke on City and was also questioned if he believes that his side has improved since their win back in December.
"It’s a top team with the best coach in the league, a team that is really hard to imagine how they are going to play. We are prepared for that and we believe in our team.
"It will be a very good game, we know what to do, we have more training, and the table at the moment (United above City) doesn’t matter.
"I think we are a better team, if you see any aspects of the data, we are a better team. We are ready to play the game, but we need to show it on Monday."
Amorim is thrilled to bring in Lammens
Questions then shifted to summer signing Senne Lammens who replaces Andre Onana who has made a loan move to Trabzonspor.
"We are really pleased, he is a goalkeeper with a lot of potential. We are in the moment that the goalkeeper needs to be really strong and have a lot of experience, but we also have to look at the present with a focus on the future so it is a bit of both. He will be ready."
"Sometimes you as a club you try to see different options, one or another. We have an option that can give us different things in the moment, but also has a great potential to be our goalkeeper for a number of years."
Bayindir will start against City
Despite the praise for Lammens, Amorim confirmed that Altay Bayındır will start against City which will disappoint many fans.
"Yeah. It is the same thing I do with different positions but Altay is going to continue. It is a different league, different country, different training, different ball. So they will fight for the position."
Onana could stay?
Finally, he made a final comment on Onana and revealed that there is a small chance that he could stay at the club even if a change was needed.
"It could be (considered Onana staying), but I think as a club, we understood it needed a change. Sometimes it’s hard to point why, the performance, the moment, the bad luck in some moments was hard on him.
“Our thinking was to have a change with the goalkeepers, but I wish the best with Andre Onana. He was really good at working and helping the players. But sometimes you need to change the environment."
