After it was confirmed sporting director Fabio Paratici will leave in February to join Fiorentina, Spurs have moved quickly to announce the appointment of Moersen in what is another significant change in the club’s shifting executive structure.
Sporting Director, Johan Lange, spoke on the announcement and was optimistic about the changes behind the scenes.
“We are delighted to welcome Rafi to the Club in the newly created role of Director of Football Operations. He was the outstanding candidate from a highly competitive process and brings a wealth of experience in this critical area of our football operation.
“His appointment is an important step as we continue to strengthen our football structure and support long-term success.”
In the past, Moersen was responsible for negotiating player contracts at Manchester City as he took up the role of director of football transactions.
Reports state that Moersen is not expected to take up his new duties immediately, but he will report to Lange upon his official arrival next month.
He also held posts at New York City FC and DC United, and graduated from the University of Valencia in 2015 with a masters degree in company strategy that carried a thesis that was based on the MLS and possible expansion.
