The 35-year-old announced that he would be leaving Bayern Munich at the end of the season in a shock move that broke the heart of many German football fans. The Germany international is the Bundesliga side’s record appearance maker and currently sits third on their list of all-time scorers with an astounding 247 goals.
Now he is a free agent and many reports have stated that he will either hang up his boots or travel to the MLS to see out his career, much like Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez are currently doing. Muller has now confirmed suspicions in the media and admitted that he will not be retiring.
“I still have the desire to play football, and that’s why I’ve decided to definitely continue. I will remain a footballer.”
Sky Sports Germany had claimed that Muller was set to imminently make a move to join the US side, Los Angeles FC, in what would be a great move to enjoy the sun before he ends his career for good. Muller confirmed the MLS rumours and said it would fit well alongside the World Cup in 2026.
“It will definitely be an experience abroad for me – I’m really looking forward to it and I’m curious. The MLS is of course an interesting league, especially with the World Cup taking place in the U.S. next year.”
Muller has amassed 276 assists with the German giants, winning 12 Bundesliga titles and two Champions League trophies in 756 appearances overall. Last season, he made 49 appearances across all competitions, returning eight goals and eight assists. He would certainly be a great addition not only to LAFC but also the MLS which has been growing rapidly in recent years and would only benefit from his arrival and the attention he would bring.
