Spanish midfield legend Sergio Busquets will reportedly retire from professional football at the conclusion of Inter Miami’s 2025 MLS season, ending a stellar career spanning two decades.

Busquets, 37, is widely regarded as one of the greatest defensive midfielders in the history of the game, winning a whopping 32 trophies during his time with boyhood club Barcelona.

He amassed 713 appearances during his 15 years in the Barcelona first team, popping up with 13 goals, before leaving to join Lionel Messi at Inter Miami in July 2023.

Now, according to COPE journalist Nacho Garcia, Busquests will announce his retirement from football once the current MLS season ends, and his contract expires, in late 2025.

The World Cup winner has openly hinted he is nearing the end, admitting last summer he was "much closer to ending my career than to continuing it".

Busquests is yet to make an official announcement, but it is now expected to be imminent.
