The Herons were due to end their pre-season schedule with a game against the Ecuadorian side in Puerto Rico on Friday.
However, the World Cup winner sustained the injury during a pre-season game last weekend against Barcelona Sporting Club in Ecuador, where he scored but was substituted in the second half.
Speaking to fans, the former Barcelona star sent a message to fans and confirmed that the game will be rescheduled before the MLS season begins on February 21st.
“Hello everyone, I’d like to send my greetings to the people of Puerto Rico, both those who were going to attend the training session and the match.
“The truth is that in the last match in Ecuador I ended up with a discomfort, which is why I came off before the end. Because of that, together with the organizers and the club, it was decided to suspend this match. I hope it can be rescheduled, that we can see each other, and that we can visit you soon.
“I’m sending you all a very big thank you for your support and affection. I know tickets had already been sold and everything was set in motion, so hopefully we can make it happen later.”
“A big hug to everyone, and all the best.”
Messi’s side, led by his former teammate Javier Mascherano, head into the campaign as the reigning champions after beating Vancouver Whitecaps in November's final to win the first MLS Cup in Inter Miami's history.
Messi was held out of a preseason friendly in Hong Kong because of an injury in 2024 and the club handed a partial refund to fans after he did not participate.
