Barcelona goalkeeper Joan Garcia has revealed how he would love to see Inter Miami's Lionel Messi return to the side.

The Barcelona legend posted some simple shots of himself at the Camp Nou on Instagram and practically broke the internet as he stood in the middle of the pitch. The club has no idea he would return to the city, let alone the ground where he shared to many iconic moments.

Messi expressed his love for the club this week and said he vows to return to the city with his family in the near future. This sprouted reports suggesting he would return to the club, which Barcelona president Joan Laporta says is unrealistic.

"His departure wasn't as we wanted," Laporta told Catalunya Radio when asked about a hypothetical Messi return. "But out of the utmost respect for Messi and everyone at the club, for me to feed speculation that is not realistic is not appropriate."

Now, speaking to RAC, Garcia has opened up on the potential move which he hopes will one day be possible before the 38-year-old retires in the coming years.

“No one expected Messi to do that, it’s good what he did. We talked about it in the dressing room, but we didn’t give it much importance either,” Garcia said.

“I hope he can come and play with us, but I don’t know how possible or realistic that is.”

Messi left Barcelona in 2021, bidding a teary farewell to the club he’d spent over 20 years with. He is now preparing to play in his sixth World Cup with Argentina next year, something which he says he will only do if he is in top shape, which only dampens a potential move to Barcelona even further.

Garcia himself has been sidelined for several months following meniscus surgery, but is now expected to return after the international break, in a huge boost for manager Hansi Flick.
