After his contract with Club León expired at the end of December 2025, Rodriguez has been a free agent. Despite this, at the age of 34 he is said to be ready to head North to the US where he aims to impress in the MLS.
As reported by Marca, the former Real Madrid, Bayern Munich and Everton star is close to an agreement with Columbus Crew, who are currently without a manager following the departure of Wilfried Nancy to Celtic.
Rodriguez is most famous for the 2014 World Cup where he shined for Colombia, becoming the tournament's top scorer with 6 goals which included a Puskas winner for his effort versus Uruguay.
The veteran has also been linked with teams in the Brazilian Serie A after he featured for Sao Paulo in 2023 and 2024. Neymar is said to open to welcoming Rodriguez to Santos who recently survived relegation.
However, he has not played a competitive game since November 18th and any move to the MLS would mean him rebuilding his fitness. Orlando City are also said to be interested in the midfielder who turns 35 next year as retirement dawns.
