Beyond his surname, 18 year-old Messi is regarded as among the best teenage players in the world.
The attacker joined Strasbourg over the summer from Dijon, where he became both the club's youngest debutant and goalscorer at 16 years of age last year.
"This name has nothing to do with the Argentine player; it's my father's," he explained.
The initial pressure was palpable: "I knew every move I made would be commented on. I scored my first goal a week after my debut, and there was immediate buzz on social media."
Originally from Sèvres, Rayane started at Chaville in 2015, then Versailles, joining the Clairefontaine training centre in 2020. In 2022, he signed with Dijon FCO at just 14 years old. He stood out for his performances with the France U17 team, scoring two goals against England at the 2024 European Championships.
Courted by Borussia Dortmund, Bayern Munich, and several Ligue 1 clubs, Rayane was acquired by Strasbourg in the summer of 2024 for €1.5m and loaned to Pau this season, where he has already scored his first goal against Laval.
