Pogba is back in training after a minor strain suffered at the beginning of the month.
The midfielder is now working towards his debut for Monaco and a first competitive appearance in two years after completing a doping ban.
Pocognoli, also discussing Denis Zakaria's return from injury, revealed: "Paul is closer to a return than Denis, even if his absence was much longer. I had said that this week would serve to answer some more questions and every day is in this process.
"For the moment, things are going well, I expect it to be short term before I can see him back in the squad. When he returns, we will have to put a process together to judge him on the player he is now. The Paul of Manchester United or his first era at Juventus dates back several years now."
Pocognoli's comments are encouraging for Pogba given Zakaria's absence is expected to be only a matter of weeks.
