Chelsea have had an agreement over personal terms with Jacquet for much of this winter transfer window.
However, on deadline day today, Liverpool now have a deal with Rennes over a £60m fee for the youngster. In contrast, Chelsea have so far failed to reach terms with the Ligue 1 club.
Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano is reporting Liverpool now are in the box seat to sign Jacquet.
Liverpool are happy to pay £60m for the French youngster and also loan Jacquet back to Rennes for the remainder of the season as they seek Champions League qualification this season.
In contrast, along with a failure to settle on a price, Chelsea were also demanding Jacquet join them immediately.
