Jeremy Jacquet has agreed to sign for Liverpool for £60M from French side Rennes and he has now spoken for the first time.

Liverpool have signed Rennes centre-back Jeremy Jacquet for £60m but the 20-year-old will remain at Ligue 1 side Rennes for the rest of the season before moving to Anfield in the summer.

Rennes are currently sixth in Ligue 1 and are hoping for a place in one of the European competitions next season. Jacquet explained his decision to stay with the side and why he agreed to leave for Merseyside as he spoke to the club website.

"I am honoured to sign for Liverpool, one of the greatest football institutions in the world.

"It was also very important for me to finish my time in red and black on a high, at my boyhood club, the club of my heart.

"I'm approaching this second half of the season with the desire to experience some great moments with my teammates and the fans."

Liverpool signed the towering defender ahead of the likes of Chelsea, Bayern Munich and Manchester United who were seeking to place a bid for the youngster who had his pick of the clubs.

Virgil van Dijk and Ibrahima Konate are currently their only fit senior players in that position for manager Arne Slot and despite the good news of Jacquet arriving in the summer, many are worried about the second half of the season defensively.
