Former Manchester United midfielder Gomes told Le Phoceen: "I'm very happy to be here. During summer preparations, talking with the coach and the staff made my choice easier.

"People sometimes forget how big Marseille is. Here you feel it every day, with the fans, the people, the city. And you can clearly see the club's project. I'm happy to be part of it."

He continued: "In England, you breathe football, but in Marseille, it's something unique. The connection between fans, players, and club is special. You have to come to the Vélodrome to truly understand what it means to be in Marseille. Personally, I put it in the top three stadiums in Europe."

When asked if the Vélodrome is better than St. James' Park or Anfield, Gomes answered without hesitation: "Yes, in my opinion, yes.

"I've played in those stadiums, but here… you have to experience it. You go to the pharmacy or the supermarket and you always meet an OM fan. Everyone loves the club; it's impossible not to bump into a fan. So far, all the interactions have been positive. I love talking to the fans; it's pleasant."
