Chelsea defender Ben Chilwell has waved goodbye to the club as he makes his move away from the side this summer.

The England international said goodbye after The Blues confirmed that he would be moving to RC Strasbourg on deadline day in what is a heartbreaking moment for many fans who have a strong connection with Chilwell

Chilwell appreciates the support

Chilwell has signed a two-year deal with the Ligue 1 side and has become the sixth player to leave Chelsea for Strasbourg this summer. He joins Mike Penders, Kendry Paez and Mamadou Sarr who arrived on loan, while Mathis Amougou and Ishe Samuels-Smith completed permanent moves. 

Speaking to Chelsea supporters on Instagram, Chillwell thanked fans for the their overwhelming support and the memories which will stay with him for life. 

“Chelsea fans, firstly thank you! We won the Champions League together, made a bond like I’d never have imagined and I met brothers for life on and off the pitch here. 

“You helped me through the tough times, injuries, personal life, and gave me the best moments of my life. I’ll never be able to thank you guys enough, looking forward to showing everyone my best. See you soon. Chilly.” 

A final goodbye

Injuries limited his impact in later years in West London but Chilwell still helped his side to European glory and the Club World Cup. The left-back also posted a reel, speaking to fans in a lengthy statement which ended in a final goodbye where he says he hopes to come back one day. 

“Now it’s time for me to move on to the next chapter in my journey, push myself again at another club and go and enjoy my football again. 

“Of course it’s not the way I would have loved things to have ended here after such great memories, but it’s a place that I’m going to be very excited to come back to, to see the fans, to see my friends at the club. 

“I’m very excited for what’s next for me in the future. Hopefully I’ll see everyone very soon.”
