Former Arsenal star Jack Wilshere has emerged as a surprising frontrunner for the vacant managerial role at struggling Luton Town.

The Hatters are searching for a new boss following Matt Bloomfield’s departure and have turned to the 33-year-old to take charge, despite him never having held a permanent senior managerial position.

The appointment of Jack Wilshere would continue a growing trend in League One, where clubs are increasingly placing their trust in young, relatively inexperienced coaches.

In some cases, it has paid off spectacularly Kieran McKenna at Ipswich stands out, having guided the Tractor Boys from League One to the Premier League.

Luton will hope for similar success with Wilshere. Having been part of the coaching staff at Arsenal and Norwich, he could bring a fresh perspective compared to other candidates.

The Hatters are eager to secure an immediate return to the Championship, as the prospect of another season in the third tier is an alarming reality they are keen to avoid.
