Chelsea under-21 midfielder Leo Castledine has agreed to join Huddersfield Town on a season-long loan as he prepares for his medical.

The 20 year old looks likely to land a Championship move this summer with Chelsea ready to let the young midfielder leave permanently to Huddersfield who are awaiting his arrival this Friday where he is scheduled to take his medical according to The Athletic.

Chelsea and Castledine have now decided a loan is the best option for his future as he is unlikely to feature under manager Enzo Maresca whose squad is filled to the brim with world class talent. Castledine caught the eye on loan in League One with Shrewbury Town this season before a serious back injury ended his season.

In total he made 26 appearances for Salop, scoring twice and will now look to apply his trade in League One in an opportunity to play consistent football for an entire season before being able to make a decision on his future which is looking increasingly likely to be away from West London.

Current first team members Levi Colwill (2021-22) and Trevoh Chalobah (2019-20) had impressive spells there earlier in their career. Tino Anjorin (2022-23) and Alex Matos (2024) all enjoyed time at Huddersfield in the past and Chelsea will hope that Castledine can grow use the time there to grow into a potential first team player in the future.

Huddersfield finished in a disappointing 10th place in League One last season in their first year back in the division but manager Lee Grant has been backed by the owners and the club will hope for a much better showing in the new campaign as they attempt to climb back up to the Championship once more.
