Earlier this month, reports claimed Szczesny has turned down the chance to leave for a top La Liga side in favor of staying at Camp Nou and seeing out his contract.
His existing deal at Barcelona runs until 2027 and the Polish international has been playing as a backup for playing backup to first choice Joan Garcia who has a firm spot between the sticks.
The Polish goalkeeper has participated in 10 matches with Barcelona, conceding just 17 goals. Despite still being a key member of the side, he admits that the 36 year old knows he is getting older.
“I am clearly no longer at the European elite level I was used to in the earlier years of my career”.
“It is much easier for me to accept that someone is simply much better than me. I love supporting Joan García”.
Reports state that now he is at the twilight of his career, the veteran shot-stopper is more concerned with personal and family happiness rather than financial gain or playing time.
The goalkeeper is said to be happy in Spain and is not far from his homeland of Poland when compared to the usual destinations of the MLS or Saudi Pro League which could leave him homesick before he hangs up his gloves.
