Real Madrid defender Eder Militao has admitted he considered retiring from football after suffering two serious knee injuries in two years.

The 27-year-old missed nearly all of the 2023–24 campaign with an ACL injury in his left knee, confining him to the sidelines for a whopping 214 days.

Militao then suffered an identical injury in his right knee last season, missing another 234 days that left him questioning whether he should continue playing or not.

Now back with the Brazil national team having missed out on Carlo Ancelotti’s previous two squads, Militao admitted he considered “leaving football.”

“With my second injury, a lot went through my mind,” Militao said ahead of their game with South Korea on Friday (October 10).

”I thought about leaving football because it’s not easy, but with the help of my wife, my daughter and my teammates, I’m here today to play well.”
