Marcus Rashford’s hopes of completing a permanent switch to Barcelona are under threat after the Spanish club saw their spending power cut by £100 million due to La Liga’s latest financial constraints.

The 27-year-old made the loan move to Barcelona over the summer transfer window, with the club having a £30 million option to buy inserted into the deal.

Rashford scored a brace in Barcelona’s 2-1 Champions League win over Newcastle, his first and second goals in a competitive game for the club.

It’s understood that Rashford is keen on making the move permanent next summer, but those hopes have since been dealt a major blow.

According to the Daily Mail, Hansi Flick’s side have seen their spending power further limited due to La Liga’s salary caps.

Barcelona's official salary cap for the 2025-26 season has been cut from €463million to €351 million, a drop of €112m.
