Last week, Bayern Munich boss Vincent Kompany dismissed Karl's description of Real Madrid as his "dream club" as a mistake.
The 17-year-old caused controversy with his comments which belittled the German giants as fans reacted online with frustration over how Karl suggested Bayern were not quite good enough for him.
Karl said: "FC Bayern is a very big club. It's a dream to play there," Karl told the gathered supporters. "But at some point, I definitely want to go to Real Madrid. That's my dream club, but that stays between us. Of course, Bayern is something very special and it's a lot of fun."
Now, it has been revealed that Karl wears shin pads with the text "learning from the best" alongside a picture of Barcelona icon Lionel Messi.
Karl has already scored six times this season for Bayern and is one of the best young talents in Europe. Clearly he has learnt a lot from Messi as he follows in his footsteps in what has been a rapid rise to the top so far.
The teenager can score goals, create for his teammates and win the ball back. Madrid may well be sniffing around in the summer for Karl, who clearly has a love for La Liga.
