The decision was made after Yamal joined La Roja having undergone a minor procedure - without the knowledge of Spain chiefs. It was then decided to release the teen back to Barca, much to the frustration of De la Fuente and his staff.
In response, Laporta said on Radio Cataluyna[i] this morning: "We informed the federation as soon as we learned about it. When the doctor who examined him told us that Lamine needed ten days of rest, we notified the national team.
"We respect all sides and don't want to get into controversy. We're simply trying to treat our players at the pace we deem most appropriate."
Laporta also insisted: "On Monday, the doctor, an authority in his field, arrived, examined him, and determined the treatment. Everything went well. We want Lamine to be 100% fit for Barça. This period of rest coincides with his national team commitments, but I don't think it penalizes Spain: the team is in an excellent position."
He then concluded: "We do what we believe is right in the best interests of Barcelona."
