David Hancko admits he's lost a lot of money joining Atletico Madrid.

The defender left Feyenoord for Atletico this past summer, but not before agreeing terms with Al-Nassr.

The Saudis pulled out of the deal in controversial fashion, so leaving Hancko to accept an offer from Atletico.

"Al-Nassr wasn't our first option, because I've always wanted to stay in Europe. And even though I'd spoken to coaches and sporting directors at other clubs during transfer windows in the past, the move never materialized," Hancko told TA3.

"This summer, only one offer came in, but it was incredible ... so we had to sit down and talk about it. In a way, it wasn't ideal having to drag my pregnant wife halfway around the world to Riyadh, but she told me she'd come and that we could do it. Although, obviously, she had her own preferences about where we went."

He continued: "I won't lie, that contract was simply... If I compare contracts, I'd have to play for Atlético for 20 years to earn that much. And I have a five-year contract with them, while with Al-Nassr it was only four.

"When we started to sense that something wasn't right in Austria (where Al-Nasr were doing their preseason), my agent let Atlético know that they could still take me. And Atlético did in a day and a half what we wanted them to do in a year and a half."
