De Jong: Some inside Barcelona wanted to sell me

The Holland midfielder signed a new deal to 2029 with Barca last week.

"There was a moment when some people at the club wanted to sell me to raise money. I think it was in the summer of 2023 or 2022, I don't remember exactly," De Jong told El País.

"I always knew I wanted to stay at Barcelona. I've always been happy to play here. 

"I was a player with a transfer window, but I had clear ideas: I wanted to stay, and I knew that, if I was healthy, I would play. When you have a contract, if you want to stay, you stay. That's why I  wasn't afraid."
