The Portugal wing-back joined Barca in January from Al-Hilal on-loan to the end of the season.
Marca says Barcelona's intention is to keep Cancelo. He is aware of this, but also knows it won't be easy.
The defender has one year left on his contract with Al-Hilal , so extending the loan is impossible unless he extends his contract with the Saudi club, something that isn't currently being considered.
And if Barcelona has to pay a transfer fee, the situation becomes even more complicated.
Al-Hilal are said to want at least €8m to release Cancelo at the end of the season. However, Barca's preference is for Cancelo to negotiate a release from the final 12 months of his deal.
This would mean the wing-back taking a huge hit on his wages, with Cancelo currently earning a third at Barca which he has been on with the Saudis.
