Many inside the game have questioned Yamal's attitude towards his profession, particularly away from the pitch.
But the Spain star told ESPN: "I do what any 18-year-old does: hang out with friends, look after my brother, play video games, go for walks... things like that."
In his opinion, this is key to living peacefully and away from all the media attention.
"I try to be with my friends and live my life. I try not to focus solely on football, not to be constantly concentrating on the match, or to watch videos of the full-back I'm going to face, none of that," he added.
"I try to enjoy the whole day and when I'm on the field I give my all, but when I leave the field I want to disconnect from football as much as possible."
Asked about a dream day - if he was an unknown - Yamal added, "First, I'd go have breakfast somewhere on a terrace. In the afternoon, I'd play a game of football in a park, for example, at the Rocafonda sports center.
"And then I'd go for a ride on my bike or scooters with my friends. Normal things."
