Barcelona are closing on the signing of Al Ahly striker Hamza Abdelkarim.

The 17 year-old is set to bolster the attacking options of Barça Atlètic, coached by Juliano Belletti. Abdelkarim, who turns 18 today, could travel to Barcelona next week to complete his transfer, according to Egyptian media.

The negotiations have taken a little longer than expected, but the same reports assure that Al-Ahly's directors have decided to accept Barcelona's latest offer made in a meeting held on January 1st.

The percentage of a future sale increases from 10% to 15%, as does the amount of the purchase option.

Initially set at €1.25m after the six-month loan period from January to June, it will now be €1.5m. Several variable amounts have also increased, now reaching €5m.

With other offers on the table, Abdelkarim was instrumental in finalising the deal with Barcelona. The striker had already made it clear to the Egyptian club's management that he wanted to join the Blaugrana. Incidentally, he would become the first Egyptian footballer in the Catalan club's history.
