Several pundits and ex-players have questioned Yamal's behaviour off the park, though Laporta insists there is nothing to be concerned about.
He said on El Chiringuito: "Lamine is a genius.
"He needs support and guidance, but he's already more mature than many of his peers thanks to his experiences. Fame can overwhelm him, but he handles it well. He's 18, he trains every day, he's disciplined despite the groin pain, and he follows the club's guidelines to improve. We need to take care of him."
Laporta continued: "Like everyone, he will make mistakes, perhaps more than others due to his young age. But he's a boy who knows how to make himself loved."
On the outspoken ways of Yamal's father, Mounir Nasraoui, the president concluded: "The father is very passionate, and we have to consider that Lamine is only 18. All this has come early and can overwhelm him a bit."
