Before joining Dinamo, the teen trained at La Masia and his representatives have maintained regular contact with sporting director Deco.
Mundo Deportivo says Deco is exploring the prospect of bringing Varela to Barca next year. Indeed, it's suggested there could be a choice to be made between signing Varela or buying outright Marcus Rashford from Manchester United.
It's been suggested Varela may be reluctant to move to Barca if he cannot see a first team path for himself.
