The Spain midfielder has been carrying a knee sprain for some weeks and after several days of discussion, it has been decided he will undergo an anthroscopy on Tuesday.
The procedure is regarded as the least invasive than other types of surgery and also allows for a shorter recovery time.
Gavi has been attempting to recover from radial medial meniscus injury.
The operation will be performed by Dr. Joan Carles Monllau and supervised by Barcelona's medical services.
Gavi played in the first two matches of the season, against Mallorca and Levante, before suffering the injury. He started neither, playing 66 minutes and providing one assist.
Once the surgery is completed tomorrow, Barcelona, which has not provided a timeframe for the midfielder's absence, will issue another statement.
