The 27-year-old is a long term target for Atletico Madrid having been linked with a move to the Spanish capital for the past couple of years.
Romero has remained at Tottenham despite their rocky period, however, but his most recent social media outburst may well be the last straw.
Posting after their 2-2 draw with Man City on Sunday (February 1), Romero seemed to insinuate that he was unhappy with the club’s January transfer activity, branding it ‘disgraceful’ that they only had 11 players available for the game.
According to The Sun, Atletico are now hoping to take advantage of his apparent unhappiness and sign him in the summer.
A deal may be tricky considering Romero put pen to paper on a new contract last August and his standing in the team.
